Hi, I am keen to start clicker training as I have been reading about it. I have 2 dogs. A 2 year old Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier X Poodle and a 3 month old King Charles Cavalier X Poodle.
My Soft Coated Wheaten has improved a lot since we've had him. We got him when he was 18 months old, he was extremely exciteable, had never been walked on a leash (it really hurt - he would see something and charge off only to pull on your arm very sharply) and bounced all over the house. Now he can walk on a leash but does pull, he is still bouncy and excitable but we are working on discipline and we also know that part of that is his breed. We are working on discipline and getting used to being around other dogs cause he gets so excited he can't hear a word you say. I want to do clicker training with him as I think it could be great for him, if I can get him to behave a lot better I would like to do agility with him. I spend time with him each day doing sit, down, stay just so we can help him calm down when he would normally bounce (like when the kids a singing and dancing).
We have had the puppy for 2 weeks and he learns a lot from the dog. He can sit and is still working on toilet training - gets it right 60% of the time. I would like to click and reward when he wees on the grass but will this confuse the dog?
Do I only click and reward when they both do something right? At the moment the only thing really would be 'sit', and to come when they are called - they both come if either of them are called. I was trying to ignore the one that hadn't been called and make a fuss of the one that was called but have been told to just call both as if I am out with them and want them to come because of some danger I want them both to come.
I would appreciate any advice on training the dogs together, I have searched the internet and not found any yet. I guess I would have to do some work together and some seperately? But what about big things like when the puppy wees on the grass but the dog is relaxing inside? _________________ Alison |
